Going on discovering the content of the box we find an ATX adapter,
which powers Media Lab even when PC is switched off. This is needed
because remote controller has the ability to switch on the PC, so if
the Media Lab IR receiver was not powered, this would have been
actually impossible.
Remote Controller is really full of buttons which can control a lot of
functions. Once you hold it in yor hand you can appreciate the good
quality of this product.
Following pictures gives you an idea of all the functions that this
remote can activate or control.
As mentioned above, on the top right corner there is the I/O button
that can power on and off the PC. The green button on the left instead
has the same effect than pressing Alt+F4 keys together on the
keyboard: it shuts the window that is currently active.
The big pad in the center of the remote is its control-center. It acts
like a mouse and/or arrows on the keyboard. Surrounding buttons do the
clicks, right clicks, Return-key, and so on..
On the top of this pad you have the play/record buttons, while under
it there is a numeric keypad and we can find some easy access buttons
on the bottom needed to manage DVD/CD functions and so.
The VFD panel shoved above is the masterpiece of MediaLab. It
incorporates the hidden IR receiver and a two lines LCD display that
provides every information the user needs. We will see more about this
later on...
Looking at it you can see how stylish and precise the design is: no
add-ons, no buttons, no-nothing! That's a perfect way to keep your
HTPC or whatever pc you're using clean and nice looking.
The sample we had from Thermaltake Italy (code A2328) is made of silver brushed aluminium but
you don't have to worry if your HTPC has that shiny black colour:
Thermaltake also does Media Lab with a black aluminium face (code
A2331).
