A questo indirizzo, Hardware Zone ha pubbliato la recensione del masterizzatore esterno Iomega 48X24X48X, caratterizzato da elevate prestazioni, da dimensioni estremamente ridotte e dall'interfaccia USB 2.0.

A differenza di altri masterizzatori portatili, questo IOMEGA è praticamente un masterizzatore interno rivisto come soluzione esterna. E' stato solo adattato con una cover esterna e l'interfaccia USB 2.0, mantenendo praticamente le stesse dimensioni di un masterizztore interno. Il tempo di accesso è di 80 ms, è dotato di 2MB di buffer con tanto di tecnologia per la protezione dagli errori di Buffer Underrun.

Durante il test, in fase di masterizzazione, il drive ha ottenuto ottime velocità medie di scrittura, sia con CD audio, con CD di dati e con CD riscrivibili.

For S$339 we would considered it reasonably priced for an external drive with a 48x24x48x terminology. About the couple of things that we hoped Iomega could have done better for this drive is its bundle - including a CD-RW media probably wouldn't hurt much. And we are sure many would prefer the more versatile Nero Burning ROM software over HotBurn Pro anytime. In the performance aspects of the drive, we can see that it is very much a capable external writer in its own rights. But its achilles heel is that when it comes to on-the-fly burning, you're probably going to face some hiccups burning at any speed above 32x. That's our only complaint in this field. As a CD-ROM drive, there's next to nothing to complain about with the External 48x24x48x as well.

This drive may not have the form factor which the Predator series are well-known for, but nonetheless, the External 48x24x48x is a candidate to consider if you ever need a robust CD-RW outside your casing. One you know that will survive a couple of knocks here and there, and yet able to perform up to expectations as a basic CD-RW drive.
