- SAN JOSE, Calif. – Oct. 22, 2002 – HyperTransport Technology Consortium, founded to develop, promote and manage specifications of the HyperTransportÔ I/O link, today strengthened its presence within the networking and communications industry with the availability of two new HyperTransport-based products and three new members. PLX Technology and PMC-Sierra recently announced the availability of networking products integrating HyperTransport technology, while Seaway Networks described how its Streamwise technology will integrate the I/O link. Seaway also joins communications companies, Agilent Technologies and MathStar, Inc.™, as the newest members of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium. With over 35 HyperTransport-based products already announced and over 50 members, the consortium continues to establish an extensive ecosystem of products and services to help enable designers within the computer, networking and telecommunications industries to seamlessly integrate HyperTransport technology into their next-generation system architecture.

The HyperTransport I/O link’s sophisticated feature set is designed to deliver the high performance, reliability, flexibility, availability and efficiency necessary to perform high-speed, packet processing. HyperTransport provides an aggregate throughput of 12.8 Gigabytes per second and is optimized for next-generation chip-to-chip control plane, data plane and look aside applications. HyperTransport is designed to address the requirements of the networking and communications industry, while preserving the current and future software investment that already exists with the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) today. New HyperTransport Networking Products PLX Technology unveiled its PLX® PowerDrive™ HT7520 HyperTransport Tunnel-to-Dual PCI-X Bridge, which provides high-speed interconnection capability to communications and storage-system applications (see PLX Technology release on September 16, 2002).

“The PowerDrive HT7520 frees today’s communication systems from performance limitations while leveraging the current PCI infrastructure,” said Kimkinyona Fox, product marketing manager at PLX. “The device allows backward compatibility of existing PCI hardware and software with the added benefit of supporting next-generation I/O bandwidth and performance requirements.“

PMC-Sierra announced the company is now sampling its RM9000x2 64-Bit MIPS-based multiprocessor running at 1.0 Gigahertz with integrated memory and I/O interfaces (see PMC-Sierra release on October 14, 2002). The RM9000x2’s HyperTransport I/O bus is a 500 MHz Double Data Rate (DDR) bus that delivers 16 Gbit/s of raw bus bandwidth for maximum performance and provides the RM9000x2 with connectivity to a wide range of high-speed networking peripherals.

“The unique architecture of the RM9000x2 provides networking and communications equipment designers greater processing power by integrating multiple, GHz CPU cores with high-speed, bus interfaces,” said Tom Riordan, vice president and general manager of PMC-Sierra’s MIPS Processor Division. “PMC-Sierra is responding to customer demand and have determined the HyperTransport link to be the best solution for our customers target applications.”

Seaway Networks’ CTO, Dave Lapp, will be introducing its StreamwiseÔ Network Content Processor technology at NPC West`s Session 200 covering TCP processors. Mr. Lapp will be reviewing key attributes of the technology including a discussion on hardware assists optimized for full layer 4 termination plus layer 5-7 content processing. Product announcements are expected in the new year.

These products join a HyperTransport product portfolio that includes: programmable devices, cores and design services, bus functional models, protocol monitors, bus checkers, logic analyzer and test solutions. For a full product listing, please visit: www.hypertransport.org.

HyperTransport Technology Consortium Welcomes New Members As interest in the HyperTransport I/O Link specification grows, the consortium continues to offer Contributor and Adopter memberships based on the level of member activity and participation in the various technical and marketing activities and working groups. Upon joining the consortium, all members receive a royalty-free license to build integrated circuits that incorporate HyperTransport technology.

HyperTransport welcomes three new members that will continue to expand the consortium’s portfolio of networking and telecommunications products. Agilent Technologies provides product and technology innovations benefiting millions of people around the world, from optical and wireless communications to disease and discovery research. MathStar, Inc, designs and develops high performance, reconfigurable logic devices for the communications industry. Seaway Networks offers IC-based content processing solutions to equipment manufacturers in a wide range of high growth content networking markets.

"Agilent is excited to become a member of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium at this time of transition and explosion of high-speed interfaces," said Tom Newsom, Vice President and general manager of the SOC Business Unit of the Automated Test Group, Agilent Technologies. "Our customers, and the industry in general, are wrestling with both development and test issues for HyperTransport devices, and we believe that we share a lot of relevant expertise in test which will help these issues. Our test solution for HyperTransport devices addresses one of the most complex and leading technology trends in our market."

HyperTransport at 2002 Network Processor Conference The HyperTransport Technology Consortium will be exhibiting at the 2002 Network Processor Conference in San Jose, CA, from October 22 to October 24, 2002. The consortium will have representatives available at booth #522, while its members will be exhibiting at the following locations: AMCC (booth #610), Broadcom (booths #206 and 208), Hifn (booth #623), Mindspeed (booth #404), NEC (booths #200 and 202), and Nurlogic (booth #326).

About HyperTransport Technology HyperTransport technology is a high-speed, high-performance, point-to-point link for integrated circuits, and is designed to meet the bandwidth needs of tomorrow’s computing and communications platforms. HyperTransport technology helps reduce the number of buses while providing a high-performance link for PCs, workstations, and servers, as well as numerous embedded applications and highly scalable multiprocessing systems.

About HyperTransport Technology Consortium The HyperTransport Technology Consortium, founded in July of 2001, is comprised of over 50 top companies within the networking, telecommunications, embedded and computation industries. With over 35 HyperTransport-enabled products and services already announced, the HyperTransport Technology Consortium has established an extensive infrastructure to enable designers to seamlessly integrate HyperTransport technology into their next-generation system architectures.

The HyperTransport Technology Consortium continues to drive the expansion of the HyperTransport infrastructure by promoting the technology as a free and open industry interconnect standard thereby ensuring the compatibility and interoperability of HyperTransport-enabled devices. As a nonprofit corporation, the HyperTransport Technology Consortium promotes the common business interests of its members through the conduct of a forum for the future development and adoption of the HyperTransport I/O Link specification. Members of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium receive a royalty-free license to HyperTransport Intellectual Property, gain access to additional technical documentation and participate in consortium meetings and events.

AMD, Apple Computers, Broadcom, Cisco Systems, NVIDIA, PMC-Sierra, SGI, SiPackets, Sun Microsystems, and Transmeta are the charter members that comprise the Executive Committee of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium.

Companies interested in the HyperTransport specification are invited to join the consortium. Members of the consortium pay annual dues and receive a royalty-free license to HyperTransport IP. To become a member, visit the consortium Web site at www.hypertransport.org. Please review the Bylaws of the HyperTransport Technology Consortium, and complete the online membership application.
